Our Planet

The Environment and Fast Fashion

My ideology when it comes to vintage clothing is this:

Every reused, up-cycled, or preowned piece of clothing that is sold, is one less clothing item going to our large landfills. And every time you buy a used piece of clothing instead of supporting fast fashion, you are buying into a sustainable fashion industry.

New York Time's writer Tatiana Schlossberg explained it best:

"More than 60 percent of fabric fibers are now synthetics, derived from fossil fuels, so if and when our clothing ends up in a landfill (about 85 percent of textile waste in the United States goes to landfills or is incinerated), it will not decay."

Fast Fashion is destroying our planet, every single second the equivalent of ONE GARBAGE TRUCK of textiles is landfilled or burned. If we do nothing about this, the fast fashion industry will use up 50% of the ENTIRE WORLD'S carbon budget.

Collectively as consumers, we need to do better. At The Retro Recovery we are doing whatever we can to reduce our carbon footprint and recycle every single piece of clothing we can. One used item at a time, we can really help this planet!

In 2021, as our impending climate crisis becomes more of a reality, the International Panel of Climate Control released their Sixth Annual Report. If you haven't yet, check it out here.
